Men’s Soccer Ties No. 17 Keiser University

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The SCAD men's soccer team tied No. 17 Keiser University 2-2 today at home.
 
RECORDS: The Bees are now 5-4-3, 4-3-2 SUN, while the Seahawks are 6-3-4, 5-1-3 SUN.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Just over two minutes into the game, the Bees got on the board to take a 1-0 lead. Lewis Gamble got the ball close to the top middle of the box and sent it to a breaking Ryan Holmes on the left. The goalie came out to challenge and R. Holmes was able to fire it past the goalie for the goal.
 
Fifteen minutes later, SCAD made it a 2-0 game when Phillip Holtgen rocketed a shot at the goalie who saved it and then Holtgen got his foot on the rebounded ball and got it to Ryan Holmes who put it away for his second goal of the game.
 
Neither team scored for the remainder of the first half as the Bees went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
 
In the 54th minute, Keiser was awarded a penalty kick and they capitalized on it to make it a 2-1 game. The Seahawk's second goal came at the 81:55 mark to knot the game at two-all.
 
Both teams' defenses held strong and neither team scored for the remaining eight minutes, ending the game at 2-2.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Ryan Holmes led the offensive charge with two goals, bringing him to nine on the season. Lewis Gamble and Phillip Holtgen totaled one assist each.
 
Goalie Connor Friel picked up seven saves in his 90 minutes of work.
 
WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will host Ave Maria on Saturday, October 14 at 1:00 p.m. Theme of the day is School Spirit! Shuttles will be provided for students and there will be a SCAD Food Truck in attendance. Prizes awarded to the individuals who show the most school spirit!
