The Men’s Soccer Team Earns First Home Win

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The SCAD men's soccer team earned its first home win of the season with a 3-1 defeat over the visiting Knights of Middle Georgia State University Saturday night.
 
RECORDS
  • The Bees are now 2-5 overall.
  • The Knights fall to 0-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Middle Georgia State got on the board first with a goal at the 14:02 mark.
  • SCAD answered in the 43rd minute when James Holmes (Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England) found the back of the net to knot the game at one-all.
  • Caio Lara (Richmond Hill, Ga. / Advertising and Branding), off an assist from Holmes, gave the Bees the 2-1 lead at 61:47.
  • Four minutes later, Jin Kim (Glen Allen, Va. / Interior Design) rocketed a shot from the left of the goal into the bottom right to give the Bees a 3-1 lead. Lewis Gamble (Airdrie, Scotland / Advertising and Branding) earned the assist.
  • A save by goalie Anthony Sumoza (Valencia, Venezuela) followed immediately by a defensive save from Hugh Wilkinson (Naples, Fla. / Graphic Design) allowed SCAD to keep the two-goal lead with just over 20 minutes remaining in the game.
  •  The Bees' defense held the Knights to only two more shots to earn the 3-1 win.

  • Holmes led the Bees' offense with one goal and one assist, while Kim and Lara totaled one goal each, with Gamble adding an assist.
  • SCAD outshot the Knights 23-11, with 13 of them going on goal.
  • Sumoza earned the win with three saves in his 90 minutes of work.
