Two Last Second Goals Give No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse Win over No. 2 Keiser University at the 2022 NAIA National Championship

Box Score SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Two goals in the last 40 seconds of the game propelled No. 5 SCAD women's lacrosse past No. 2 Keiser University for the 13-11 win on Wednesday, May 4th. 

RECORDS: The Bees are now 12-3, 7-0 ACC while the Seahawks are 15-4, 6-0 ACC.

HOW IT HAPPENED: With less than forty seconds remaining and the game tied 11-all back-to-back goals from Keagan Plume (Glen Arm, Md. / Architecture) off an assist from Sophia Milia (Birmingham, Mich. / Business of Beauty & Fragrance) and then a goal from Milia at the fifteen second mark gave SCAD the 13-11 win.

The Seahawks took the lead at 12:33 in the first quarter, but was soon answered by SCAD's Julia Luff (Portsmouth, N.H. / Fibers) and another from Clarke Haas (Pensacola, Fla. / Fashion Marketing and Management) assisted by Milia to bring the score to 2-1. Then an equal back and forth exchange of goals continuing throughout the first quarter with goals from Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Advertising and Branding) assisted by Haas (3-2), Haas (4-3), and Luff (5-4) to end the quarter.

The equal exchange continued into the second quarter with Reinhardt starting off the quarter followed by SCAD's Luff (6-5) and Hannah Smith (Vienna, Va. / Illustration) (7-6). The Seahawks were able to score one more going into half time to tie the score 7-7.

In the third quarter, Reinhardt was able to score the first goal, but the Bees were ready to take action to score four consecutive goals. These goals were from Grace Boyer (Stevensville, Md. / Interior Design) assisted by Luff, Milia, Luff, and De Caro assisted by Plume bringing SCAD into a lead of 11-8. The Seahawks finished the quarter off with one final goal with 3:59 left on the clock.

Late in the fourth quarter is when the Seahawks were able to score the first goal of the quarter with two goals back-to-back tying the score 11-11 with 2:06 left on the clock. The Bees then scored the two nail biting goals at the 00:38 second mark and the 00:15 second mark to give SCAD the 13-11 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Luff dominated the offense with four goals and one assist for a game-high of five points. Luff also had one ground ball and one caused turnover.

Haas, De Caro, and Milia each scored two goals while Boyer, Plume, and Smith scored one each.

Milia had the high of two assists followed by Haas and Plume with one each.

Smith was able to pick up the most ground balls (3) and caused three caused turnovers followed by Eden Ali (Lancaster, Pa. / Photography) with one ground ball and two caused turnovers.

Plume, Sydney Bowers (Lake Worth, Fla. / Film and Television), and Tracy Richards (Poway, Calif. / Visual Effects) picked up two ground balls.

Richards captured five saves in her 60 minutes of work.

WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will remain in Southfield to play No. 5 Benedictine College at 7:00 PM for the semifinals of the 2022 NAIA National Championship on Thursday, May 5th.
