No. 7 Women’s Lacrosse Overcome by No. 2 Cumberlands in First Round

QUICK GOAL: The No. 7 SCAD women's lacrosse team lost 18-7 to No. 2 University of the Cumberlands in the opening round of the NAIA Women's Lacrosse National Championship on Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium in Savannah.
 
DID YOU KNOW? This is the first time that the NAIA National Championship has been held in Savannah, Ga.
 
ALL-AMERICANS: At the conclusion of the event, junior Sophia Milia (Birmingham, Mich. / Business of Beauty & Fragrance) and freshman Clarke Haas (Pensacola, Fla. / Fashion Marketing and Management) were named 2021 NAIA Second-Team All-Americans.
 
RECORDS: The Bees end the season with an 8-3 record while the Patriots will advance to the semifinals with a 15-1 record.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Cumberlands jumped to an early 5-0 lead less than eight minutes into the game and scored another five goals to go up 10-0 before Tatum Crouch (Easton, Md. / Fashion Marketing and Management) found the back of the net with 2:40 remaining in the first half.
 
Keagan Plume (Glen Arm, Md. / Architecture) scored the last goal of the first half with 10 seconds on the clock to bring the score within nine (11-2) going into halftime.
 
Allison Thierry (Stevensville, Md. / Interior Design) struck first, just 15 seconds into the second half but Cumberlands answered with two goals of their own to go up 13-3 with 25:48 remaining on the clock.
 
Haas, with an assist from Milia, brought the score to 13-4 and would score again, eight minutes later to bring the score to 15-5 in favor of the Patriots with 16:28 left to go.
 
Crouch and Milia, off an assist from Plume, scored the last two goals for the Bees, with the second one coming with 8:21 remaining. Cumberlands scored the last two goals of the game to earn the 18-7 victory.
 
BOX SCORE: Crouch totaled a game-high six draw controls to go with two goals and three ground balls.
 
Haas added two goals of her own while Plume, Thierry and Milia tallied one goal each. Plume and Milia added one assist apiece with Plume totaling three draw controls on the night.
 
Olivia Jackson (York, Pa. / Fashion Marketing) had three caused turnovers while Aly De Caro (El Dorado Hills, Calif. / Advertising and Branding) and Sydney Bowers (Lake Worth, Fla. / Film and Television) totaled two. De Caro had two draw controls with Brielle Bouchard totaling one.
 
Goalie Tracy Richards (Poway, Calif. / Visual Effects) nabbed six saves in her 90 minutes of work.
