Game Recap: No. RV Men's Lacrosse | | Colena Roberts

Nail Biter Ends with One Goal Loss for Men’s Lacrosse

QUICK GOAL: The SCAD men's lacrosse team faced off against St. Andrews University in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship Quarterfinal and battled to a 9-8 loss.

RECORDS: The Bees end the season with a 3-5 record while the Knights improve to 5-4 overall.

AAC TOURNAMENT: SCAD entered the AAC Championship as the number five seed and had to travel to the No. 4 seed Knights in the first-round.

HOW IT HAPPENED: St. Andrews took a 1-0 lead quickly in the first quarter, but SCAD answered with back-to-back goals from Wolf Zachar (Springfield, Va. / Industrial Design) and Michael Mowers (Savannah, Ga.), off an assist from Sean Parmer (South Elgin, Ill. / Architecture), to give the Bees their first lead of the day (2-1). The Knights scored the last goal of the first quarter to tie the game at two-all going into the second quarter.

SCAD jumped to a 5-2 lead early in the second quarter when Banks Maynard (Harrisburg, N.C. / Animation) off an assist from Elliot Fish (Toronto, Ontario, Canada / Film and Television), found the back of the net. He was followed by Parmer scoring off an assist from JT Smith (West End, N.Y. / User Experience (UX) Design), and then Parmer assisted Zachar with 9:01 remaining in the half.

The Knights followed with two of their own goals to come within one (5-4) going into halftime.

Unfortunately, SCAD only scored one goal – Maynard – in the third quarter to St. Andrews' two to knot the game at six-all heading into the final quarter.

The teams traded goals back and forth throughout the fourth quarter with Kyle Beckmann (Murphy, Texas / Visual Effects) and Parmer (assist-Maynard) scoring for the Bees. It would not be enough as St. Andrews scored the last goal of the game with just over two minutes remaining to edge by SCAD 9-8.

BOX SCORE: Parmer, Maynard and Zachar scored two goals each with Parmer adding two assists for a team-high four points. Maynard added one assist for three points while Mowers and Beckman totaled one goal each.

Fish and Smith totaled one assist with Smith picking up eight ground balls and winning 13-20 face offs.

Jake Kozak (Murfreesboro, Tenn. / Sequential Art) nabbed seven ground balls while also causing one turnover.  Beckmann added a team-high two caused turnovers with Smith, Parmer and Mowers each totaling one.
