Men’s Soccer Ties No. RV Southeastern in SUN Quarterfinal

LAKELAND, Fla. – The SCAD men's soccer team ended its season at No. RV Southeastern on Saturday with a 2-2 tie in the Sun Conference (SUN) Quarterfinal.
 
SUN CHAMPIONSHIPS
  • The Bees went into the SUN Championship as the number five seed and had to travel to the number four seeded Fire for the first round.
PENALTY KICKS
  • In the case of a tie, to determine who advances to the next round a series of five penalty kick attempts will be made by each team and whoever totals the most, will advance.
  • The Bees scored four out of five penalty kicks while the Fire found the back of the net on all five of them to advance to the Sun Semifinals.
RECORDS
  • SCAD ends the season with a 4-6-6 record.
  • Southeastern advances with a 9-4-5 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SCAD got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Hugh Wilkinson (Naples, Fla. / Graphic Design) in the 21st minute, the first of his collegiate career.
  • The Fire answered with a goal 12 minutes later to knot the game at one.
  • Neither team scored for the remainder of the first half to go into halftime tied one-all.
  • Southeastern scored their second goal at the 64:04 mark to take a 2-1 lead.
  • The Bees answered with a goal from Jesus Ulloa (Savannah, Ga. / Graphic Design) with less than five minutes remaining in regulation, ultimately forcing overtime.
  • SCAD did not manage to take a shot in the first overtime but maintained the 2-2 tie as the Fire took two shots.
  • In the second overtime period, the Bees totaled two shots to the Fire's four but still, the game remained knotted at two at the end of 110 minutes to force penalty kicks.

  • SCAD totaled 12 shots (five on goal) to Southeastern's 16 (six on goal).
  • Wilkinson and J. Ulloa totaled one goal each with both totaling one shot on goal.
  • Matteo Tizzano (London, United Kingdom / Advertising and Branding), Ty Bennett (Kingston, Jamaica / Advertising and Branding), Phillip Holtgen (Munich, Germany / Industrial Design) and J. Ulloa took two shots each.
