QUICK GOAL: The SCAD men's soccer team traveled to Mount Vernon, Ga. for an afternoon game against Brewton-Parker and is coming home with a 3-2 win.
RECORDS: The Bees are now 2-2 to start the season while the Barons are 0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Despite only taking three shots in the first half, the Bees tied the game – the Barons scored at 9:19 - at the 44:42 mark when
Tom Barry found the back of the net off a pass from
McKinley Fodness.
Barry scored his second goal of the game, and the first in the second half, at the 74:42 mark. Brewton-Parker tied the game four minutes later.
Ty Bennett kept the game from overtime with the game-winning goal with 23 seconds remaining on the clock.
COACH MALONEY: "Another good display of character from the guys today" states Interim Head Coach Ryan Maloney. "We were slow to start and paid the price by going down a goal in the first half but we made some adjustments at halftime and the guys responded positively. After their second equalizer, the lads showed a lot of heart - especially after a disallowed goal a couple of minutes earlier - to stick to task and get the late winner."
BOX SCORE: Tom Barry led the team with two goals and three shots, all on goal.
Lewis Gamble totaled two shots while
Ty Bennett went one for one with his game-winner.
Jayden Corbridge, MckKinley Fodness,
Ben Jacobson,
Zachary Hoedl and
Nassim El Bouthtouri all totaled one shot.
Goalie
Marlon Ascencion earned the win with four saves in his 90 minutes or work.
