Women’s Lacrosse Heading to NAIA Semifinals

Box Score QUICK SCORE: The No. 1 ranked SCAD women's lacrosse team defeated No. 8 Lawrence Tech 22-10 in a 2019 NAIA National Invitational Championship quarterfinal Thursday evening in Grand Rapids, Mich.

RECORDS: The Bees improve to 12-1 overall while the Blue Devils end their season with a 10-9 record.

DID YOU KNOW? This is the fourth-straight year in which SCAD has advanced to the semifinals of the NAIA National Invitational Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Lawrence Tech scored the first goal of the game at the 27:53 mark but SCAD answered 25 seconds later with a goal of their own from Drew Dowgiallo off an assist from Jordan Mitchel to tie the game at one-all.

The Bees scored nine more goals – Harper Barth, Sydney Knego (3), Mitchell (2), Dowgiallo (2) and Sophia Milia – with the last coming at the 17:10 mark to take a 10-1 lead.

SCAD closed out the half with three goals from Mackenzie DeMott (2) and Dowgiallo while the Blue Devils scored five for the Bees to take a 13-6 lead into the halftime.

The Bees opened the second half with five goals from Dowgiallo, Mitchell (2) and Tatum Crouch (2) with Crouch's second goal coming at the 18:59 mark to give SCAD an 18-6 lead.

Both teams traded goals back and forth with Mae Dougherty and Knego scoring at the 14:27 and 9:06 marks to go up 20-8.

SCAD's Mitchell and Taylor Rosenfeld scored the last two goals of the game for the Bees to ultimately win 22-10.

BY THE NUMBERS: SCAD totaled 41 ground balls to Lawrence Tech's 30 while also winning 17 draw controls to the Blue Devils' 16.

Dowgiallo and Mitchell totaled five goals with Mitchell adding three assists and Dowgiallo one. Knego tallied four goals with one assist while Crouch added two goals and one assist and DeMott added two goals.

Barth, Milia, Rosenfeld and Dougherty had one goal each while Barth, Milia and Emma Devereaux added one assist.

Knego nabbed six ground balls while Katie Rowell picked up five. Rowell also added three caused turnovers while Moran Willett added four. Knego won a game-high nine draw controls.

Goalie Maggie Lortz earned the win and totaled three saves in 23:31 minutes of work while Tracy Richards and Liv Vieira totaled two and one saves, respectively.

WHAT'S NEXT? The Bees will play No. 5 Kesier on Friday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the semifinals of the 2019 NAIA National Invitational Championship.
