QUICK GOAL: The SCAD women's soccer team is advancing to the quarterfinals after defeating Ave Maria Saturday afternoon to end the season with a 6-3-1 conference record.
DID YOU KNOW? This is the first time since the 2016 season in which the Bees have advanced to the Sun Conference tournament.
RECORDS: The Bees end the regular season with a 9-6-1 overall record and a 6-3-1 record in Sun Conference action. The TSC record puts SCAD tied for third place overall. Ave Maria ends the season with a 2-15, 1-9 TSC record.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Sam Manelis provided the first goal of the game in the ninth minute to give the Bees an early 1-0 lead.
Thirteen minutes later, the Gyrenes knotted the game at one all when Meghan Precord found the back of the net off a header from teammate Jessica Martinez.
Neither team scored for the remainder of the half, keeping the match even at one at halftime.
Manelis scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 56thminute off an assist from Natalia Zapata to give SCAD the 2-1 lead. Zapata turned around and scored a goal of her own four minutes later off an assist from Riley Shelton giving the Bees the eventual 3-1 win.
BOX SCORE: SCAD outshot Ave Maria 36-5, including an 18-3 edge in shots on goals. Manelis totaled a game-high 10 shots and a game-high seven shots on goal to lead the way for the Bees.
Shelton and Zapata totaled five shots with Zapata tallying three on goal and Shelton tallying two.
Hannah Amidon took four shots, two on goal, while Helena Godmann and Madison Lambert totaled three.
Annie Sullivan and Noel Thompson tallied two shots with Gabrielle Oudemool-Slye and Grace Long adding one each.
Goalie Elisa Dogor nabbed two saves in her 90 minutes of work.
WHAT'S NEXT? With this win, the Bees have guaranteed themselves a spot in the quarterfinals of the Sun Conference playoffs, opponent yet to be determined.
