Box Score Greenville, S.C. – The top seeded SCAD women's lacrosse team couldn't overcome an early deficit as they fell No. 4 Davenport, 15-8 in the semifinals of the 2016 Women's Lacrosse National Invitational Friday afternoon at Sirrine Stadium. With the win the Panthers improve to 16-3, while the Bees finish the season with a 13-3 record.
Davenport struck first as Tara Pluger connected with the NAIA Player of the Year Brooke Knoll for a pair of goals. SCAD cut the lead to 2-1 as Olivia Stahl found Kirsten Carr in front of the cage for a goal with 21:29 remaining in the first half. The Panthers went on a 4-0 run, spanning 6:36, to give Davenport a 6-1 lead with 12:25 remaining. Taylor Vaccaro converted a free position goal to cut the deficit to 6-2. Davenport scored a pair of goals before Danni Cox connected with Drew Dowgiallo for a goal to cut the deficit to 8-3 at the break.
Less than a minute into the second half, Tori Alexander found Dowgiallo in front of the cage for a goal to cut the deficit to 8-4. The Panthers added a goal before Cox converted a free position shot with 24:30 remaining. Davenport netted six of the next seven goals to extend their lead to 15-6 with 11:34 remaining. Cameron Dolan and Carr scored back-to-back goals for the 15-8 final.
Vaccaro, Carr, and Dowgiallo each netted a pair of goals, while Cox tallied a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Maggie Lortz made a season-high eight saves in the cage.
Davenport advances into the finals of the national invitational and will face No. 2 Georgetown, Saturday at 1 p.m. EDT.
