Balanced Scoring Leads Bees Past Eagles

Greenville, South Carolina – The top-seeded SCAD women's lacrosse team had 12 different players score at least one goal as the Bees defeated eighth-seed Benedictine 24-3 in the first round of the NAIA Invitational, Wednesday afternoon at Sirrine Stadium. With the win the Bees advance to the semifinals on Friday, while the Eagles finish the season with a 9-5 record.

SCAD struck first as Olivia Stahl netted an unassisted goal on the first possession of the game to give the Bees an early 1-0 lead. Sophie Cutts and Danni Cox each scored a pair of goals to extend the lead to 6-0 with 22:56 remaining in the first half. The Bees added eight unanswered goals, including two from Torii Clark to give SCAD a 14-0 lead with 1:52 remaining in the opening period. Elizabeth Darrow scored an unassisted goal to put Benedictine on the board and cut the lead to 14-1 at the break.

It was a similar story in the second half as Cutts found Taylor Vaccaro cutting towards the cage for a goal, two minutes in. The Eagles scored a goal, before SCAD score responded with six straight goals to take a 21-2 lead with 9:10 remaining. Jenna Nabridge and Lauren Bock combined to score the Bees final three goals for the 24-3 final.

Leading the way for the Bees was Cutts who tallied four goals and an assist. Cox and Joanna Ehatt both tallied four points in the win, while Clark finished with three goals, an assist, and five draw controls. Drew Dowgiallo finished with three goals, while Nabridge, Vaccaro, and Kirsten Carr each scored a pair of goals.

Maggie Lortz played the first 19 minutes, making two saves and earning the win.

SCAD's 24 goals is the most goals the Bees have scored in game since March 6, 2010 when they defeated Georgia Southern 23-1.

The Bees will return to action Friday, May 6, when they face the winner of the Davenport vs. Indiana Tech game, which takes place tonight at 1 p.m. Live video and live stats of the game will be available here.
