Second Half Surge Pushes Bees Past Skyhawks

West Point, Georgia – The top-ranked SCAD women's lacrosse team scored 13 second half goals to help defeat Point 16-4 Saturday afternoon at River Bowl Stadium. With the win the Bees improve to 9-1, while the Skyhawks fall to 6-4.

SCAD struck first as Joanna Ehatt found Taylor Vaccaro cutting towards the cage for a goal to give the Bees an early 1-0 lead. Six minutes later Torii Clark connected with Sophie Cutts for a goal. The Bees took advantage of a Point penalty as Shannon Flaherty found Vaccaro for a man-up goal to give SCAD a 3-0 lead with 15:38 remaining in the first half. Desiree Martin scored a man-down goal to cut the the lead to 3-1 at the break.

Point won the opening draw control and netted a goal on the ensuing possession to cut the led to 3-2. SCAD responded as Danni Cox, Ehatt, and Vaccaro each scored a pair of goals to extend the lead to 9-2 with 20:44 remaining in the second half. The two teams traded goals before Cox found Clark for a man-up goal to extend the lead to 11-3. SCAD scored five of the final six goals for the 16-4 final.

Leading the way for the Bees was Vaccaro, Clark, and Flaherty. Vaccaro netted five goals and dished out one assist, while Clark tallied two goals and three assists. Flaherty tallied a team-high 11 ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers.

Carr, Cox, and Ehatt each tallied two goals and an assist in the win. Kirsten Carr, Jenna Nabridge, Cameron Dolan and Drew Dowgiallo each netted one goal in the game.

The Bees will return to action Saturday, April 9, when they travel to Naples, Florida to face conference rival Ave Maria in their regular season finale. The game is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
