Box Score Grand Rapids, Michigan – The top-seed SCAD women's lacrosse team rallied in the second half but it wasn't enough as the Bees fell to fourth-seed Davenport 11-9 Friday night. With the win the Panthers improve to 13-3 and advance to the championship game of the NWLL tournament, while the Bees fall to 12-2.
Davenport struck first scoring the first six goals of the contest to give the Panthers a 6-0 lead with 11:59 remaining in the first half. Joanna Ehatt converted a free position shot to get the Bees on the board and cut the deficit to 6-1. Davenport scored back-to-back goals to extend the deficit to 8-1 at the break.
The score remained that way for the first seven minutes of the second half as the two teams traded possessions. Danni Cox connected with Taylor Vaccaro twice for goals to cut the deficit to 8-3. Maggie Lortz made one of her seven saves to halt a Panthers attack and on the ensuing possession Torii Clark found Sophie Cutts in front of the cage for a goal to make the score 8-4 with 19 minutes left in the game. Vaccaro and Emma Devereaux netted back-to-back goals to make the score 8-6. The two teams traded goals three straight times to make the score 11-9 with 5:14 remaining in the second half. Clark won the ensuing draw control but the Bees were unable to get off another shot before time expired for the 11-9 final.
Vaccaro led the Bees with five goals, which is the fourth time this season that she has netted at least five goals in game. Ehatt netted a pair of goals, while Cox dished out a pair of assists.
Clark tallied an assists, four draw controls, and a team-high three caused turnovers, while Devereaux finished with a goal and five draw controls. Lortz's seven saves is a career-high in the cage.
The Bees will return to action Wednesday, May 4, when they travel to Greenville, South Carolina for the opening round of the NAIA Invitational. SCAD will face Benedictine at 4 p.m. and live video and live stats of the game will be available here.
