Savannah, Georgia – The SCAD men's tennis team rally in singles play came up just short as the Bees fell to 12th-ranked Reinhardt 5-4 Saturday afternoon. With the win the Eagles improve to 3-0 while the Bees fall to 0-3.
Reinhardt earned wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles Sean Hadju and Kenta Naka rallied to tie the set 8-8 and force a tiebreaker. The duo won the tiebreaker 7-5 to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into singles play.
The Eagles extended their lead to 3-1 with a win at No. 3 singles. Hajdu won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to cut the deficit to 3-2. Reinhardt score another point, before Naka defeated Brandon Lane at No. 6 singles to make the score 3-4. At No. 5 singles, Quentin Staley dropped the first set but rallied 6-1, 7-5 to even the score at 4-4. In the deciding match, Corrie Pickering won his first set 6-4, but dropped the second 6-4. The third set went back and forth but Pickering eventually fell 7-5 to give Reinhardt the 5-4 win.
The Bees will return to the court tomorrow, March 6, when they face conference for Webber. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Bacon Park.
