Men’s Tennis Battles but Falls to 21st-ranked Warner 5-4

Savannah, Georgia – The SCAD men's tennis team battle 21st-ranked Warner but ultimately came up just short as the Royals won 5-4 Saturday afternoon at Bacon Park. With the win the Royals improve to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play, while the Bees fall to 3-8 overall and 2-3 against The Sun Conference.

Warner scored the first point of the match with an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. Sean Hajdu and Quentin Staley teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles to even the score 1-1. The Royals got an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles to take a 2-1 advantage into singles play.

The Royals extended their lead to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Staley, playing No. 4 singles, won 6-4, 6-2 to cut the deficit to 3-2. Warner picked up straight set wins at the No. 3 and No. 6 positions to clinch the match.

At No. 2 singles, Hajdu dropped the first set 5-7, but rebounded to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-1. Corrie Pickering split the first two sets at No. 5 singles before defeating Alejandro Herrera 10-6 in the third set for the 4-5 final.

The Bees will return to the court Friday, April 1, when they host William Woods. The match is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Bacon Park.
