Offensive Surge Leads Bees Past Eagles

Hardeeville, South Carolina – The top-ranked SCAD women's lacrosse team had ten players net at least one goal as the Bees defeated Asbury 20-1 Tuesday night at the SCAD Athletic Complex. With the win the Bees improve to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Eagles fall to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

SCAD got off to a fast start as they converted their first six shots into goals to give the Bees a 6-0 lead eight minutes into the contest. Drew Dowgiallo netted back-to-back goals to extend the Bees lead to 8-0 midway through the first half. Two minutes later, Torii Clark scored an unassisted goal for third goal of the game and second hat trick of the season. The score remained that way until the 3:26 mark when Sophie Cutts netted a goal to give SCAD a 10-0 lead at the break.

It was a similar story in the second half as Olivia Stahl won the opening draw control. On the ensuing possession Clark found Kirsten Carr cutting towards the cage for a goal. Taylor Vaccaro and Dowgiallo scored back-to-back goals to give the Bees a 13-0 advantage with 24:21 remaining. Erin Garmany converted a free position shot to get the Eagles on the board. Shannon Flaherty won the ensuing draw control and ran a give and go with Clark for a goal. SCAD scored the final six goals of the game, including one from Alyssa Stetson, Cameron Dolan, Joanna Ehatt, and Danni Cox for the 20-1 final.

Clark led the Bees with three goals and four assists, while Dowgiallo and Vaccaro each tallied five points. Flaherty tallied two goals, two assists, and eight draw controls.

Maggie Lortz, Olivia Vieira, and Maddie Boucher split time in the cage and combined for saves. Stahl tallied a team-high four caused turnovers and picked up five ground balls.

The Bees return to action Friday, March 18, when they face conference foe and second-ranked Georgetown. The game is scheduled for noon at the SCAD Athletic Complex. Livestats will be available here.
