Late Rally Comes up Short as Bees Fall 6-3

Savannah, Georgia – The SCAD men's tennis team won the final two singles matches of the day but it wasn't enough as the Bees fell to Middle Georgia State University 6-3 Saturday afternoon at Bacon Park. With the win the Knights improve to 5-4, while the Bees fall to 1-4.

Middle Georgia State jumped out to a quick 2-0 start with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Daiki Naka and Corrie Pickering rallied to even the score 8-8 and force a tiebreaker. The Bees eventually lost the tiebreaker 7-4 to go down 3-0 heading into singles play.

The Knights won at No. 4 singles to extend their lead to 4-0. SCAD rallied as Kenta Naka defeated Filip Seatovic 6-2, 6-2 to score the Bees first point of the match. Middle Georgia got wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, before Yulin Liu defeated Colby Gandy 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) to cut the deficit to 6-2. Quentin Staley dropped his first set 3-6, but rallied to win the second and third sets 6-3, 6-1 for the 6-3 final.

The Bees return to the court Sunday, February 28, when they travel to Statesboro, Georgia to face Georgia Southern at 2 p.m.
