Box Score Hardeeville, South Carolina – The top ranked SCAD women's lacrosse team used a strong first half performance to defeat St. Andrews 18-2 Saturday afternoon at the SCAD Athletic Complex. With the win the Bees improve to 10-2, while the Knights fall to 3-12.
SCAD struck first as
Charlotte Cutts found
Charlotte Walters cutting toward the cage for a goal to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. The Knights tied the score 1-1, before
Sophie Cutts connected with
Charlotte Cutts for a goal.
Kayla Nelson scored back-to-back goals to extend the Bees lead to 4-1 with 18:30 remaining in the first half. Nelson won the ensuing draw control and on the Bees possession
Sophie Cutts found a cutting
Taylor Vaccaro for a goal. Back-to-back goals by
Jordan Cook and Nelson extended the Bees lead to 7-1, 13 minutes into the game.
Joanna Ehatt scored three of the next five goals to give SCAD the 12-1 lead with 9:59 remaining in the opening period. Two minutes later,
Alyssa Stetson caused a Knights' turnover, picked up the ground ball, and scored her sixth goal of the season to give the Bees a 13-1 lead at the break.
The two teams traded goals to start the second half. Vaccaro,
Danni Cox,
Cara Sebag, and
Kirsten Carr each netted a goal in the half for the 18-2 final.
Nelson lead the Bees with three goals and four assists, while
Sophie Cutts,
Charlotte Cutts, Ehatt, and Carr each tallied four points in the win.
Stetson and Nelson tied for the team-high in ground ball as they both picked up six. The Bees backline of
Shaina Levin, Stetson,
Sami Fisher, and
Lauren Thomas combined for six caused turnovers and ten ground balls.
Jenny Danko made two saves in the game to improve to 10-2 in the cage this season.
The Bees will wrap up their regular season tomorrow when they host Ave Maria at 11 a.m. at the SCAD Athletic Complex.
