Box Score Georgetown, Kentucky – The SCAD women's lacrosse team scored the final five goals of the game but it wasn't enough as the Bees fell to fourth-ranked Georgetown 13-12 Friday night at iHigh.com Field. With the win the Tigers improve to 6-1, while the Bees fall to 6-2.
Georgetown struck first scoring five of the first six goals to take a 5-1 lead 12 minutes into the opening period. SCAD responded as
Charlotte Cutts and
Kayla Nelson netted back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Tigers scored twice to take a 7-3 lead into the break.
The second half began similar to the first as Georgetown scored two of the first three goals to extend their lead to 9-4. Minutes later
Jordan Cook found
Shannon Flaherty cutting towards the cage for a goal with 23:29 remaining. Georgetown took advantage of the several Bees fouls scoring three straight free position goals to extend their lead to 12-5 midway through the second half.
Nelson won the ensuing draw control, raced up the field and connected with Flaherty for a goal 13 seconds later. The Bees took advantage of a Tigers penalty as
Taylor Vaccaro converted a free position shot to cut the deficit to 12-7 with 13:14 remaining. After a Georgetown goal, Nelson scored back-to-back goal to cut the deficit to 13-9. On the Bees next possession Cutts found Nelson in front of the cage for a goal with 9:24 left in the second half. A minute later, Nelson picked up the ground ball off of a Tigers turnovers passed it to Cutts who found Vaccaro cutting towards the net for a goal. On the Bees next possession, Cutts connected with Vaccaro again to cut the deficit to 13-12 with 6:39 remaining. SCAD had a chance to tie the game but Georgetown's goalie Doreen Brabble made a save to secure the win.
Nelson led the Bees with five goals and an assist while Cutts tallied five points (one goal, four assists). Vaccaro and Cook each finished with three points.
SCAD returns to action tomorrow when they face Asbury in a neutral site game. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
