Lawrenceville, Georgia – Playing its second top-ten team in two days the 23
rd-ranked SCAD men's tennis team upset tenth-ranked Cumberland 8-1 Monday afternoon at GGC Tennis Courts. With the win the Bees improve to 5-4, while the Bulldogs drop to 1-4.
SCAD start the match up 2-0 as Cumberland forfeited the points at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
Kenta Naka and
Joao Freitas extended the Bees lead to 3-0 with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Yulin Liu and
Sean Hajdu battled at the No. 1 doubles and came out victorious winning the point 9-7.
The Bees strong play continued into singles as
Bobby Brand picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 doubles to clinch the match. Naka, Freitas, and Hajdu all won in straight sets to give the Bees an 8-0 advantage.
At No. 3 singles, Liu dropped the first set, but bounced back to win the second set 6-3. Jose Ortego won the third set 10-7 for the 8-1 final.
The Bees return to action Friday, March 27, when they host Bethune-Cookman. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Bacon Park.
