White and Tewes-McCoy’s Strong Play lift Bees Past Fire

Savannah, GA – Josh Tewes-Mcoy and Zack White combined to account for three points as 19th-ranked SCAD defeated conference foe Southeastern 5-4 Saturday afternoon at Bacon Park.  With the win the Bees improve to 2-2 and 2-0 in the Sun Conference, while the Fire fall to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
 
Kevin Naka and Joao Frietas got the Bees off to a good start, winning 8-0 at number two doubles to give SCAD a 1-0 lead. After the Fire evened the score, Tewes-McCoy and White battled for a 9-7 win at number three doubles to give SCAD a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Southeastern battled back taking the first two points of singles play giving the Fire a 3-2 lead.  Then Yulin Liu evened the score with a 6-4, 6-4 win at number three singles. Southeastern's Gelawdiyos Haile used a three set win over Frietas to put the Fire back on top 4-3.  After dropping the first set, Tewes-McCoy battled back winning 6-2, 6-2 to even the score at 4-4.  White followed that with a three set win at number five singles to secure the win for the Bees.
 
The men will be back in action Saturday, February 14, when they travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face Northwood in a Sun Conference match-up. Match is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
