Box Score Hardeeville, South Carolina – The second-ranked SCAD women's lacrosse team scored 11 second half goals to defeat Emmanuel 22-10 Saturday afternoon at the SCAD Athletic Complex. With the win the Bees improve to 3-0, while Emmanuel drops to 1-5.
The Lions struck first scoring twice in the first four minutes of the game to give Emmanuel a 2-0 lead.
Charlotte Cutts won the ensuing draw control and ran a give-and-go with
Rebekah Kirkley for the goal to cut the lead to 2-1. The Bees scored three unanswered goals, including two from
Shannon Flaherty, to take a 4-2 lead ten minutes into the first half. Emmanuel responded taking advantage of two SCAD penalties, first converting a free position shot and then netting a man-up goal to even the score at 4-4 with 13:23 left in the opening half.
After the two teams traded goals,
Kayla Nelson found
Alyssa Stetson in front of the cage for a goal to give SCAD the 6-5 advantage. The Bees scored five of the next six goals, including a pair from
Jordan Cook and Nelson, to take an 11-6 lead into the break.
The Bees hot shooting continued in the second half as Cook connected with Flaherty for a goal 55 seconds in. After a Lions goal, Nelson found Cook cutting towards the cage for a goal to extend the lead to 13-7. A minute later, Nelson converted a free position shot to give SCAD a 14-7 advantage six minutes into the half. The teams traded goal twice before Cutts netted back-to-back goals to give the Bees an 18-9 lead. SCAD scored four out of the final five goals, including one from
Sophie Cutts and
Torii Clark, for the 22-10 final.
Nelson led the Bees with a game-high eight points (five goals, three assists), while Flaherty netted five goals. Cutts tallied six points, nine ground balls, and seven draw controls.
Jenny Danko finished with ten saves and five ground balls to improve her record to 3-0.
The Bees will return to action tomorrow morning when they host Reinhardt at the SCAD Athletic Complex. Game time is set for 10 a.m.
