Savannah, Georgia – The 22
nd ranked SCAD men's tennis team won all three doubles matches to defeat St. Thomas 7-2 Sunday afternoon at Bacon Park. With the win the Bees improve to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the Sun Conference, while the Bobcats fall to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Bobby Brand and
Josh Tewes-McCoy got the Bees started, scoring the first point of the match with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
Kenta Naka and
Joao Freitas followed with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while
Yulin Liu and
Sean Hajdu picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
The strong play continued into singles matches as Frietas extended SCAD's lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.
Liu outdueled Luis Soto for a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles to clinch the match for the Bees. Liu improves his conference record to 4-0 and is the only Bees play to be undefeated in conference play.
Brand won in straight sets at No. 5 singles, while Tewes-McCoy battled back after dropping the first set to win the match in three sets.
SCAD will return to action next weekend when they travel to Orlando, Florida for a three game road trip. The Bees will face conference foes Warner and Webber on Friday and Saturday, and wrap up their trip Sunday against Grand Valley State.
