The Men's Tennis Team completed its 6-day spring break trip to Florida with a come from behind win against the Southeastern Fire. It was the second day in a row that the Bees were on the edge of defeat and pulled out a victory.
Â
The story unfolded like this – after falling behind 0-2 in doubles play the Bees needed a momentum swing to give them hope in the remaining matches. The encouragement came from freshman
Zach White and
Theo Gough. The No. 3 team staked the Bees to a win to go 1-2 in doubles.
Â
This left it to the singles play. SCAD need to win 4 of the 6 matches to earn a victory. It did not start out well for the Bees as No. 1
Jack Anton lost in straight sets 4-6 and 0-6. Â Freshman
Joao Freitas, who had won his previous 3 matches on the roadtrip, won 7-6 and 6-2. But when the Bees lost at No. 3 1-6 and 2-6, it did not look good.
Â
As was the case yesterday when the men were able to win the last 5 singles' contests to pull out a 5-4 win, the Bees were able to provide the last three wins in today's contest to give SCAD another 5-4 comeback victory. Way to go Bees!
Â
Sgubin, who had won his 4 previous singles matches on the trip, provided the Bees with number five. He won in straight sets 6-2 and 6-2. Freshman
Yulin Liu dominated his opponent and won 6-0 and 6-0. This left the deciding match up to a freshman,
Zach White. And White gave the Bees exactly what they needed. He won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, to give SCAD its third victory in a row and move the Bees to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in The Sun Conference.
