M. Tennis Swept by 4th Ranked Georgia Gwinnett

The SCAD Men's Tennis Team fell to fourth-ranked Georgia Gwinnett 9-0 today at Bacon Park in Savannah.  The Grizzlies scored their fifth shutout of the season, reaching 12-0 overall on the year, while the Bees dropped to 0-2.
 
It was GGC's fifth victory over an eight-day span that saw the Grizzlies knock off their first-ever NCAA Division I opponent, Div. II power Armstrong Atlantic, a Div. III foe and two NAIA programs.
 
Doubles
 
The Grizzlies opened up an early 3-0 advantage in doubles.  Jack Anton and Theo Gough lost at No. 1 by a score of 8-3.  At Nos. 2 and 3 GGC got a pair of 8-2 victories from Bruno Tiberti / Erik Moberg and Connor Clements / Matias Hatem over SCAD's Joao Freitas / Darnell Sgubin and Yulin Liu / Manatsa Mazimbe.
 
Singles
 
SCAD's Nos. 1 and 2 singles, Anton and Gough, were swept by 6-0, 6-0 margins, while No. 3 Freitas was defeated 6-0, 6-1.  SCAD's No. 5 player, Liu, lost 6-1, 6-1, and No. 6, Manatsa Mazimbe, fell 6-0, 6-2.

The only bright spot was Darnell Sgubin at No. 4, who battled for three sets, but was finally defeated by Tony Kostadinov 2-6, 6-1 (10-0).   
 
It was not a good day for the men; however, they play again tomorrow at Bacon Park against Benedict College.  Play begins at 9 a.m.
