Game Stats

The defending NWLL national champions SCAD-Savannah began the 2014 season as they ended the 2013 campaign – with a victory.  The convincing 20-11 win over Reinhardt University in Weleska, Georgia made a statement that the Bees are again in the hunt for their third straight national championship.

The first game of the season did not begin as the Lady Bees had envisioned.  Halfway through the first half the Bees found themselves down 0-2.  Something must have clicked with SCAD because from that time to the rest of the period, the Bees rolled out 13 goals to take the lead for good.  At the end of the first half SCAD had a 13-5 lead – and they never looked back.  They scored 7 more goals before the final horn sounded and ended the day with a 20-11 victory.

Leading the way in the scoring was attack Charlotte Cutts.  Cutts ended the day with 4 goals and an assist.  She also contributed 2 groundballs and was 9-14 in Draw Controls.  Right behind Cutts in the scoring column were Kayla Nelson and Jordan Cook with 3 goals apiece.  Charlotte Walter, Sophie Cutts, Kirsten Carr, and Torii Clark each had 2 goals, while Rachel Ackley and Joanna Ehatt chipped in 1 each.

While the offense was unrelenting, the defense was just as effective.  The defense caused 15 turnovers, while the goalies, Jenny Danko and Quinn Baldacci, had 11 and 3 saves, respectively.

While the victory was a good start to the season, Head Coach Nichole Hannon felt that there was room for improvement.  Good teams do not rest on their laurels.  Next up for the Bees is Reinhardt University, a very tough team, who will have the home advantage when SCAD travels to Rome tomorrow for the 12 p.m. start time.
