2/15/2014 3:58:00 PM

Defending national champions SCAD-Savannah W. Lacrosse had a tough go of it in its second match of the 2014 season.  The Lady Bees were in Rome, Georgia to face Shorter University and the game could not have been closer.  It took an overtime for the ladies to post their second win of the season against no defeats.

The game was not decided until the last 54 seconds of overtime.  It was a virtual wash on paper to the very end as Shorter and SCAD were even with shots taken at 30.  SCAD had a slight edge in ground balls (24-21).  The draw controls were slightly in favor of Shorter at 16-18.  Goalie saves were in SCAD's favor by 1 (12-11).  Looking strictly at the statistics one could not have declared a victory for either team.  It came down to overtime play.

And that was decided by Charlotte Cutts, who gave the Lady Bees a 1 goal lead with an unassited goal with 54 seconds left in the OT.  Haley Fauvelle scored another goal jus 26 seconds later with an assist by Joanna Ehatt to give the Bees a well-deserved victory and a gasp of relief.

There were definitely some outstanding efforts from a variety of SCAD women.  Junior midfielder, Kayla Nelson, had a superb game in that she scored 6 of SCAD's 16 goals out of her 11 shots taken.  Close behind Nelson was Charlotte Cutts, who contributed 3 goals out of only 4 shots taken.  Junior Charlotte Walters showed her proficiency by tallying 3 goals our of her 6 shots.  Freshman Joanna Ehatt tallied 2 goals with Fauvelle andfreshman Kirsten Carr adding 1 apiece.

Let's not forget to give credit to SCAD's goalie Jenny Danko, who recorded 12 saves on the day.  Danko played all 65:47 minutes of action and was instrumental in bringing SCAD its second victory of the young season.  Congratulations ladies.

The ladies will spend to more days on the road when they travel to Franklin Springs on 2/21 to take on conference foe Emmanuel College.  From there they travel to Athens, Tennessee to play another conference opponent, Tennessee Weslyan.  Finally, the Lady Bees return home to play its first home game agains Newberry College on 2/25 at 5 p.m.
