SCAD's women were named the 2013 National Women's Lacrosse League Champions following a 19-12 victory over No. 3 Indiana Tech Saturday night at Lindenwood Stadium in Belleville, Illinois.
The Bees and Warriors battled it out through the first half, with both teams scoring in the final two minutes and SCAD taking a 9-5 lead heading out of the first 30 minutes of play.
The second half was a mirror of the first half, with both teams battling a back-and-forth matchup. Indiana Tech was the first to score in the second half of play, but SCAD answered with a 7-0 run for a 16-6 lead.
The Warriors came back on a 6-6 run, but they could not stop the No. 1 Bees, as SCAD went on for the win by a score of 19-12 winning the National Women's Lacrosse League Championship Title for the second-straight year.
Championship MVP,
Kayla Nelson, scored nine goals on the day, breaking the previous record of seven goals, which she set last year. She also broke the shots record with 13 on the day.
Jennifer Danko broke the Championship saves record with 21, which she had previously set in 2012 with 15 saves.
Alexis Spaide,
Britney Lukowski, and
Charlotte Cutts had eight groundballs apiece, setting the all-time Championship record.
Congratulations to
Kayla Nelson,
Shaina Levin,
Charlotte Cutts, and
Jennifer Danko for being selected to the 2013 NWLL Championship All-Tournament Team.
Coach Nichole Hannon and the SCAD Bees have now won the NWLL National Championship in back to back seasons. To put this in a “one-of-a-kind-perspective” the Bees have only been a part of the NWLL for the last two seasons and have won the title in both years.
Way to go Bees!!
