HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The Savannah College of Art and Design scored 12 unanswered goals in the second half to break open a close match en route to a 19-4 decision over Tennessee Wesleyan College Saturday (April 3) afternoon at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
The Bees improved to 9-1 while the Bulldogs fell to 4-8. SCAD returns to action next Saturday (April 10) at 2 p.m. when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C., for a match against Converse College.
SCAD, which outshot the Bulldogs 45-16, led 6-2 at the half and added a quick goal by
Alexis Spaide 87 seconds into the second half before the Bulldogs got it back on a score by Tesse Sasse, who scored all four Tennessee Wesleyan goals, to pull within four goals at 7-3 with 24:51 remaining.
The Bees broke open the match as they reeled off 12 consecutive goals to take a 19-3 lead with 3:30 to play.
Kim Caltagirone and
Devin Dorsey each scored three times during the decisive run.
Nicky Mula and
Chelsea Bernardo each tallied two goals during the stretch while
Jaclyn Scott and Spaide each found the back of the net once.
Mula led SCAD overall with five goals and two assists while
Britney Lukowski contributed two goals. Dorsey and Scott paced the Bees with three assists while Spaide added one.
Khylen Steward had eight saves in goal for SCAD while Bethany Shenberge had 14 for the Bulldogs.
Allie Page led the defense with eight ground balls while
Leah Pluger, Spaide and
Sophie Spivack each had four.
