DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Savannah College of Art and Design easily advanced past St. Thomas (Fla.) University 5-0 in the semifinals of the 2009 The Sun Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Friday (April 17) morning at the Crotty Tennis Complex on the campus of Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University.
The Bees, who are ranked seventh in the NAIA, improved to 8-4 while the Bobcats are 7-6. SCAD advances to Saturday's (April 18) 1 p.m. match against No. 3-ranked Embry-Riddle, which defeated No. 24 Webber International 5-0 in the other semifinal match. The winner of the conference tournament earns an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship May 12-16 in Mobile, Ala.
The Bees took a 3-0 lead after doubles.
Dumitru Chiriacov and
Willy Frei closed out the match for the Bees with straight-set victories at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.
