SCAD, Webber International battle to 1-1 draw

HARDEEVILLE, S.C.  - The Savannah College of Art and Design and Webber International University battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw in a conference men's soccer match Saturday (Sept. 13) evening at the SCAD Athletics Complex.

The Bees improved to 1-3-2 overall and to 0-1-1 in The Sun Conference while the Warriors improved to 1-1-1 and 0-0-1. SCAD returns to the pitch Wednesday (Sept. 17) with a 4 p.m. match against Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Ga.

SCAD took a 1-0 lead right before halftime. Ryan Gadhue served the ball into Ellert Hreinsson where he collected the ball and fired it passed WIU goalkeeper Andres Zwaans into the right corner of the goal in 42nd minute.

The Warriors got the equalizer in the opening minutes of the second half as Ivan Arias flicked in a throw in from teammate Christian Hall at the 48:07 mark.

After that point, the teams couldn't find the back of the goal over the final 62 minutes of regulation and overtime. SCAD outshot Webber International 18-10, including a 12-5 advantage in a shots on goal. SCAD's goalkeeper Robbie Wright recorded four saves while Zwaans collected 11.

The match was a physical one as the teams combined for 48 fouls and seven cards.
