HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - Junior
Melissa Feuerriegel scored four times to become the Savannah College of Art and Design's all-time scorer as the Bees defeated Auburn University Montgomery 5-0 on the first day of the SCAD Classic women's soccer tournament Friday (Sept. 12) evening at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
The 13th-ranked Bees improved to 3-1-0 while the Senators slipped to 1-2-0. SCAD, which has outscored its opposition 12-0 at home in 2008, will close out the final day of the tournament with a 1 p.m. meeting against No. 15 Berry College Sunday (Sept. 14). AUM will face No. 6 Northwood (Fla.) University at 11 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 14).
Feuerriegel also tied the college mark with the four-goal outburst in the win.
Feuerriegel gave the Bees a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the 16th minute before teammate
Manuela Pizarro added another from the top of the box off an assist from
Lauren Frederick in the 33rd minute.
Feuerriegel only needed 54 seconds in the second half to give the Bees a 3-0 lead off a nifty assist from
Mary-Kate Sliter. The forward from Clontarf, Queensland, Australia, became the college's all-time goal scorer at the 80:02 mark. She collected a pass from
Shelby Simon, fired it past AUM goalkeeper Jennifer Davis. The ball ricocheted off the far post and into the goal. Feuerriegel scored her eighth goal of 2008 as she added another unassisted goal with just over three minutes remaining to close out the scoring.
With her four-goal effort, Feuerriegel now has 37 goals and 86 total points in 37 career matches. Feuerriegel surpassed Larissa Stec (1999-2003) in both categories as Stec tallied 35 goals and 83 total points.
Davis stopped 10 shots for the Senators while SCAD netminder
Rosanna Lamprey registered her first career shutout as she registered three saves. SCAD outshot AUM 30-6, including a 15-3 advantage on shots on goal.
