HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - Six different players scored as the Savannah College of Art and Design women's soccer team kicked off the 2008 season as the Bees defeated Brenau University 7-0 Saturday (Aug. 30) afternoon at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
The Bees, who are ranked 11th in the preseason NAIA poll, improved to 1-0 while the Golden Tigers slipped to 0-1. SCAD returns to action Thursday (Sept. 4) at 4 p.m. when they travel to Miami to face St. Thomas (Fla.) University in its The Sun Conference opener.
SCAD jumped on Brenau for two goals in the match's first 15 minutes.
Amanda Barj put the Bees, who outshot the Golden Tigers 28-4, up 1-0 at the 7:59 mark off the first of two assists from
Shelby Simon.
Melissa Feuerriegel scored nearly seven minutes later off a pass from Simon.
The Bees took a 5-0 halftime lead after another Feuerriegel added another goal and teammates
Lauren Frederick and
Mary-Kate Sliter got in the scoring column.
SCAD added second-half goals from
Selin Kuralay and Simon. Goalkeepers
Rosanna Lamprey and
Stephanie Foster combined on the shutout for the Bees.
