ROME, Ga. - Berry College's Luis Salazar scored the equalizer with 2:08 remaining in regulation as the Savannah College of Art and Design and Berry men's soccer teams battled to a 3-3 double overtime draw Saturday (Aug. 30) afternoon at Ford Field.
SCAD, which is ranked 25th in the NAIA preseason poll, improved to 0-1-1. The 11th-ranked Vikings fell to 0-1-1. The Bees return to action Wednesday (Sept. 3) when they open up their The Sun Conference schedule with a 6:30 p.m. match against St. Thomas (Fla.) University at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
Salazar's shot just trickled over the line after taking a deflection, but it proved to be the key goal for the Vikings.
Berry had taken a 2-0 lead on Soroush Amani's goal in the 34th minute and Teja Barkmann scored in the 62nd minute.
The Berry lead was short-lived as SCAD needed less than two minutes to erase the deficit. The Bees answered almost immediately with a goal from
Ryan Gadhue in 63rd minute. It was Gadhue's second goal of 2008. The visitors immediately seized the momentum from the goal and tied the match at 2 a minute later as
Ellert Hreinsson headed a long cross that hit the post and trickled over the goal line.
SCAD took the lead when
Ryan Middleton rifled a shot into the top-corner of the Berry goal in the 86th minute.
SCAD goalkeeper
Robbie Wright came on in the second half to finish the match with five saves. He replaced
Ross Faulds, who started and made three saves in the first half. Berry's freshman keeper Ryan Edwards posted four saves in the match.
