SAVANNAH, Ga. -
Pitcher Charlie Zink became the second former Savannah College of Art and Design baseball player to be named to an All-Star team this summer.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed pitcher from El Dorado Hills, Calif., has been selected to the 2008 International League All-Star team that will take on the Pacific Coast League All-Star team in the 21st annual Triple-A All-Star Game that will be played July 16 at 7:05 p.m. in Louisville, Ky. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN2.

Zink, who is 10-2 overall for the Class AAA Pawtucket (R.I.) Boston Red Sox this season with a gaudy 2.28 earned run average, was one of the 13 players elected to the 28-member team. The 13 elected players received the most ballots submitted by the league's field managers and general managers (1/3), members of the media (1/3), and online fan voting (1/3). The other 15 all-stars were selected by the league office.

Zink has started 19 games this season for the PawSox, who are currently in first place in the league's North Division with a 59-35 mark, with two complete games and one shutout. Zink, who also was chosen to play in the 2007 Eastern League All-Star Game, has pitched in 118.2 innings this season, allowing just 85 hits and striking out 78. In his last 10 appearances, Zink is 6-0 with a 1.93 ERA.

Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Red Sox in 2002, Zink played three seasons for the Bees from 1999-2001. He went 9-17 in 35 games for the Bees with a 3.76 earned run average in 210 1/3 innings of work. He allowed 184 hits, while striking out 263 batters and walking 110. He holds the college mark for strikeouts in a game (14 against Savannah State University, 2000).

Zink is one of three SCAD baseball players - all pitchers - currently in the minor leagues. Ryan Pope, who was selected in the third round of the 2007 draft by the New York Yankees, is currently playing for the Class A Tampa (Fla.) Yankees. Pope was named to the Florida State League's All-Star team last month. Richard Sullivan, who was taken in the 11th round of this year's draft by the Atlanta Braves, is pitching for Danville (Va.), which is the Braves' short-season rookie affiliate in the Appalachian League.
