DULUTH, Ga. – The Savannah College of Art and Design men's lacrosse team's quest for a title came to a sudden halt as Elon University defeated the Bees 9-8 in overtime in the semifinals of the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference Division II Tournament Saturday (April 19) afternoon.
The loss breaks a six-game winning streak for SCAD, whose season concludes with an overall record of 8-5.
John Healy led the SCAD scoring attack with four goals as five different Bees found the back of the net during the overtime thriller as
Joe Magnello,
Charles Pate,
Eric Willenson and
Peter Callahan each chipped in with a scoring strike. For Callahan the goal was especially rewarding as the senior from Wauwatosa, Wis., had rehabbed extensively just to rejoin his teammates on the field following a severe injury earlier this season.
Junior goalie
Kenan Degirmenci was brilliant in net for the Bees, recording 26 saves and being named to the All-Tournament Team where he was joined by SCAD freshman midfielder
Erik Elmquist.
