DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Savannah College of Art and Design advanced to the title match of the NAIA Region XIV Women's Tennis Tournament for the fourth consecutive year with a 5-0 victory over Webber International University in the semifinals Friday (April 18) morning at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
The eighth-ranked Bees, who are the tournament's No. 1 seed after winning their third consecutive Florida Sun Conference title in 2008, improved to 10-5. SCAD will face No. 2 seed and ninth-ranked Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University, which defeated Northwood (Fla.) University 5-1 in the other semifinal, in Saturday's (April 19) 10 a.m. championship match.
It will be the fourth consecutive year that Embry-Riddle and SCAD will face each other in the regional final. Embry-Riddle won the 2005 and 2006 titles while SCAD was victorious last season. The regional tournament winner will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship, which will be held May 12-16 in Mobile, Ala.
Erica Cardenas clinched the win for the Bees with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at the No. 6 singles over Aleksandra Milosevsk.
