SCAD in regional final for second consecutive year

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Savannah College of Art and Design defeated Webber International University 5-1 in the semifinals of the NAIA Region XIV Men's Tennis Tournament Friday (April 18) afternoon at the Crotty Tennis Complex.

The ninth-ranked Bees, who are seeded No. 2 in the four-team, double-elimination tournament, improved to 9-6 and will face top-seeded and No. 3-ranked Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University, which defeated St. Thomas (Fla.) University 5-0, in Saturday's (April 19) 1 p.m. championship match. The regional tournament winner will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship, which will be held May 12-16 in Mobile, Ala. It is the second consecutive year that SCAD has advanced to the title match. Webber International fell to 12-9.

The Bees fell at the No. 1 doubles spot, but rebounded to take the remaining two doubles points and Fernando Horcasitas scored the clincher with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Leigh Griffiths at No. 6 singles.
