Bees in third place after first round of NAIA Region/FSC Tournament

LAKE WALES, Fla. -
The Savannah College of Art and Design women's golf team is in third place after the opening round of the 2008 NAIA Region XIV/Florida Sun Conference Tournament Sunday (April 13).

The 14th-ranked Bees shot a 335 in the first round on the par-72, 5.878-yard Lake Wales Country Club layout. SCAD trails Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University (327), which is ranked No. 3 in the NAIA, and tournament host Webber International University (333). The winner of the 36-hole event earns the region's automatic berth in the NAIA National Championship that will be held May 20-23 in San Diego, Calif.

SCAD is being led by Katina Ruest, who is tied for second place after carding a 79. Hallie Cochran is in sixth place with an 81 while Greta Sullivan is tied for 11th at 87. Teammates Julia Fountain and Amelie Mogard are tied for 13th after registering identical rounds of 88.

Webber International's Carrie Rowe leads the tournament with a one-under par 71.

The tournament concludes Monday (April 14).
