HARDEEVILLE, S.C. –  #A.J. Getz# scored three times to lead the Savannah College of Art and Design men's lacrosse team to a 12-0 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic University Sunday (March 16) afternoon.

SCAD improved their mark to 7-4 while also clinching a postseason berth. The Sailfish dropped to 1-5.

At the onset of the contest, it appeared the Bees were going to be deadlocked in a defensive struggle as both squads remained scoreless through the first nine minutes of play before Stewart Yost got SCAD on the board with 6:42 remaining in the period. From that point, the Bees struck often and from different places as seven different players hit paydirt in the win.

Yost, Michael Molinaro and Kyle Narkiewicz each scored twice while Charles Pate, Eric Willenson and Joe Magnello all added a goal of their own against Fritz Van der Grift, who despite the score was magnificent in goal for Palm Beach Atlantic.

After taking a 5-0 halftime lead, SCAD turned up the heat on both ends of the field as Kyle Merrill,# David Hicok#, Robert McDaniel and Jon Sandoval joined the hard-hitting tandem of Rocco Avellino and Brandon Ussery in establishing a physical style of play to assist goalie Carlos Marquez in preserving the shutout.

“The defense did a great job of communicating and being in position all afternoon,” said an exhilarated Marquez, who was making his first college start and in the process picked up his first win and shutout.

The Bees return to action Saturday (March 29) as they square off against the University of South Florida at the SCAD Athletics Complex. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
