HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - Northwood (Fla.) University scored three times in the second half as the Seahawks recorded a 3-1 The Sun Conference men's soccer victory over the Savannah College of Art and Design Sunday (Oct. 19) afternoon at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
Northwood improved to 9-2-1 overall and to 5-2-1 in the conference while the Bees slipped to 4-7-2 and 2-5-1. It was the final home match for SCAD, which will return to action Tuesday (Oct. 21) with a 5 p.m. match against Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
Joonas Siikala was involved in all three goals for the Seahawks. Siikala scored Northwood's first goal at the 50:31 mark as he took a cross from teammate Baldvin Olafsson and kicked the ball past SCAD goalkeeper
Robbie Wright. Four minutes later Siikala served the ball to Tom Stringer who knocked the ball into the left corner of the goal. Siikala, who leads the Seahawks with 17 goals, closed out the scoring for Northwood as he and Olafsson teamed up at the 65:55 mark.
SCAD outshot Northwood 16-9, but the Seahawks held a 6-5 advantage on shots on goal. The Bees averted the shutout as
Karl Sjostrom scored his first goal of the year with 1:59 remaining off an
Ellert Hreinsson assist.
