SAVANNAH, Ga. -
The Savannah College of Art and Design men's swimming team opened up their 2008-09 season with a meet against NCAA Division I member College of Charleston  Saturday (Oct. 18) afternoon at the Chatham County Aquatic Center.

Charleston edged SCAD 132-127. The  meet went down to the final event with SCAD holding a seven-point margin, but the Cougars registered the win as SCAD's top 200 freestyle relay team was disqualified for leaving too early to start the third leg of the event.

Recordon registered wins in the men's 50 (20.72) and 100 (47.52) freestyle while Pushkar-Verbitsky took wins in the 100 backstroke (53.10) and the 100 butterfly (49.03) events. Geoffrey Byers picked up the other individual win for SCAD as he won the 200 backstroke (2:06.11).
