No. 3 SCAD splits double dual meet at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. –
The Savannah College of Art and Design women's swimming team won eight events as the Bees split a double dual meet against Georgia Southern University and the University of New Orleans at the Aquatics Center at the Recreation Activities Center on the GSU campus Saturday (Jan. 12) afternoon.
 
Georgia Southern defeated the third-ranked Bees 83-57 while SCAD came out on top against New Orleans 88-34. With the split, SCAD improved to 5-4. SCAD returns to the pool next Saturday (Jan. 19) with a 2 p.m. meet against Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C.
 
Junior Rachel Fritts led the Bees with three individual wins as she captured the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.89), 100 butterfly (59.63) and 200 individual medley (2:11.78) events. Freshman Stephanie McNicol continued her dominance and the middle and long-distance freestyles as she won the 500 (5:06.22) and 1,000 (10:33.50) events.
 
Junior Cassie Dixon captured the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.26, 0.01 seconds ahead of Georgia Southern's Courtney Martz. Dixon is the reigning NAIA individual champion in the 50 freestyle. Junior Lizzie Harr picked up the other individual win for the Bees as she recorded a time of 1:58.59 in the 200 freestyle. SCAD also claimed a victory in the 800 freestyle relay as Harr, Tori Aboud, Dixon and McNicol finished in a time of 7:53.64.
