Women's Soccer downs Brenau 4-1

GAINESVILLE, Ga. —
Melissa Feuerriegel scored two more goals as the 17th-ranked Savannah College of Art and Design women's soccer team defeated Brenau University 4-1 in a non-conference match Monday (Sept. 3) afternoon.

The Bees won their second consecutive match and improved to 3-1-0 while the Golden Tigers suffered their first loss of 2007 and fell to 2-1-0. SCAD returns to action Friday (Sept. 7) with a 4 p.m. match against John Brown University in the first round of the Bethel (Tenn.) College Tournament in McKenzie, Tenn.

Feuerriegel, who leads the Bees with six goals and 14 points this season, scored in the eighth minute off an assist from Lauren Frederick. Shelby Simon notched her first goal of 2007 off the first of two assists from Nicola Daffey in the 38th minute. SCAD, which outshot Brenau 26-4, took a 3-0 halftime lead when Maddy Minnis scored her first goal of the season three minutes later.

After Lily Futrell scored in the 54th minute for the Golden Tigers, Feuerriegel added her second goal in the final minute for the Bees of a Mary-Kate Sliter assist. The Clontarf, Queensland, Australia, native has scored twice in a match for the third time in four contests this season.
