HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – Sophomore
Melissa Feuerriegel had a hand in every goal as the Savannah College of Art and Design women's soccer team defeated Georgetown (Ky.) College 4-1 Sunday (Sept. 16) afternoon at the Delta Soccer Complex.
The 10th-ranked Bees won their fifth consecutive match as they improved to 6-1-0 in 2007 while the Tigers slipped to 3-3-0. SCAD returns to the pitch Friday (Sept. 21) when they open up Florida Sun Conference action against Webber International University at 3 p.m. in Babson Park, Fla.
Feuerriegel, a forward from Clontarf, Queensland, Australia, gave the Bees a 1-0 lead at the 17:13 mark off an assist from junior
Mallory Phillips. Georgetown leveled the match at 1 when Anna Weiderhold scored an unassisted goal 10 minutes later. Weiderhold's goal was set up when the ball was deflected off a SCAD defender in the box. Freshman
Nicola Daffey gave the Bees, who outshot the Tigers 26-4, the lead for good at the 35:28 mark. On a corner kick, Feuerriegel found Daffey open at the far post for Daffey's second goal of the season.
Feuerriegel closed out the scoring with two goals within 90 seconds of each other midway through the second half. Senior
Haley Bryant served the ball into the box to the two-time Florida Sun Offensive Player of the Week who knocked it past Tiger goalkeeper Amy Chamberlain, who had 12 saves. On the final goal freshman
Hannah Schwartz crossed the ball to Feuerriegel who knocked it into the right corner of the goal.
With the hat trick, Feuerriegel, who has scored at least two goals in five of the seven matches SCAD has played in 2007, has scored 12 goals this season, equaling her total from all of last season in 16 matches.
