HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – Freshman
Ellert Hreinsson scored two goals in the final five minutes, including the match-winner with 84 seconds left, as the Savannah College of Art and Design rallied for a 3-2 Florida Sun Conference men's soccer victory over Webber International University Saturday (Sept. 15) evening at the Delta Soccer Complex.
The Bees won their third consecutive match to improve to 4-2-0 overall and to 2-1-0 in the Florida Sun while the Warriors fell to 1-3-0 and 1-2-0. SCAD returns to action with a 4 p.m. FSC match Sept. 22 at St. Thomas (Fla.) University in Miami.
Webber International had retaken the lead 2-1 after Andy Glynne converted a penalty kick at the 71:35 mark after Nick Weightman was fouled inside the box. The Bees, who outshot WIU 16-12, had looked like they had tied the match with about 10 minutes remaining but Hreinsson's goal was disallowed after SCAD was called offside on the play.
However, that didn't stop the forward from Kopavogur, Iceland. He headed in a
Richard Hurlin corner kick to tie the match at 2 with 4:59 remaining. Hreinsson, who leads the Bees with five goals this season, scored the deciding goal on a breakaway goal with 84 seconds left after a through ball from
Josiah Millar down the left side of the field.
The Warriors had taken a 1-0 lead on a unassisted goal by Alex Sesto at the 12:59 mark before
Matt Engele's second goal of the season at the 49:11 mark equalized the contest at 1.
