MORROW, Ga. — The Savannah College of Art and Design men's soccer team scored a goal in each half as the Bees handed No. 5 Clayton State University its first loss of the season 2-0 Wednesday (Sept. 12) evening at Laker Field.
The match featured the return of SCAD head coach John Rootes back to Clayton State where he was the head coach from 1998-2004. Rootes has led the Bees to a 3-1 record, including wins in the last three meetings, since coming to SCAD.
The Bees, who fell out of the NAIA rankings earlier in the day, won their second consecutive match and improved to 3-2-0 while the NCAA Division II Lakers fell to 3-1-1. SCAD steps back into Florida Sun Conference competition Saturday (Sept. 15) when they host Webber International University in a 7 p.m. match at the Delta Soccer Complex.
SCAD, which has outscored its opposition 8-0 while recording two consecutive shutouts, took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute as
Josiah Millar scored his team-leading fourth goal on a breakaway pass from
Dan Fadida. It stayed 1-0 until the 61st minute when
Darren Spong scored his second goal in as many matches off a
Richard Hurlin corner kick to give the Bees the 2-0 lead.

Tommi Sarkkinen recorded four saves, while his Clayton State counterpart Billy Hale had one save.
