MOUNT BERRY, Ga. —
A late goal by junior Manuela Pizzaro gave the No. 17 Savannah College of Art and Design a 3-2 victory over No. 13 Berry College in a top-25 women's soccer battle at Ford Field Saturday (Sept. 1).

The Bees improved to 2-1-0 while the Vikings fell to 1-1-0. SCAD returns to action Monday (Sept. 3) with a 5 p.m. match against Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga.

Pizzaro netted in the 84th minute — her first in a SCAD uniform — off of a scramble in the box following a corner kick to give SCAD a 3-2 lead late in the game. Melissa Feuerriegel set up the match-winning goal.
Shannon Hackett tied the score at 2 after an equalizer in the 83rd minute. Trailing 2-1 late in the game, Emily Bender took a Berry deep in the SCAD half of the field that she sent to Patty Llaguno who nicely crossed to Hackett who put it in the back of the net from 12 yards out.

The Vikings were twice forced to come from behind because of the goal-scoring efforts of Feuerriegel, who leads the Bees with 10 points this season. The Australian striker netted the first goal in the 23rd minute from the top of the penalty area on an assist from Nicola Daffey and Mindy Beck. Feuerriegel also scored in the second half, on a long-range strike in the 72nd minute to make it 2-1.

Berry twice fought back to level the match after the Feuerriegel strikes. In addition to Hackett's effort, Llaguno also scored a goal to tie the game at 1. Lindsey Powell dribbled through the heart of the SCAD defense and unleashed a shot that beat the Bees goalkeeper Laura Hansen, but struck the crossbar. Llaguno was the first to react to the rebound and was in position put the ball in the open net.

SCAD had a 14-13 edge in shots and a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. Both Hansen and Zimmermann finished the game with three saves each.

Feuerriegel led all players with her two goals and an assist for five points in the match, as she factored in every SCAD goal. Llaguno finished the day as the Vikings' offensive leader with a goal and an assist.
