HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — The Savannah College of Art and Design men's soccer team scored two early goals and made them stand as the Bees defeated Webber International University 2-1 Friday (Nov. 2) evening in the semifinals of the 2007 NAIA Region XIV Tournament at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
The Bees improved to 13-4-0 and will advance to their third consecutive regional final when they face No. 23 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University in the 6 p.m. title match Saturday (Nov. 3). In the process, SCAD tied the college record for wins in a season with 13. Webber International ended its season at 9-8-0.
SCAD took a 1-0 lead on a breakaway goal by
Ellert Hreinsson at the 7:12 mark. It was his team-leading 12th goal of the season. The Bees added an insurance goal just over two minutes later as
Kieran Tracey knocked his first goal of the season off
Richard Hurlin's corner kick. It was Hurlin's 11th assist of 2007.
Webber International, which was outshot by the Bees 19-7, cut the margin to 2-1 as Nick Weightman converted a penalty kick at the 76:58 mark after he was taken down inside the box.
