HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — The No. 9 Savannah College of Art and Design women's soccer team scored three goals over a four-minute span midway through the first half as the Bees defeated Thomas (Ga.) University 5-1 Wednesday (Oct. 24) evening at the SCAD Athletics Center.
The Bees closed out the regular season with an 11-2-1 ledger while Thomas fell to 4-10-1. SCAD returns to action Nov. 2 at the NAIA Region XIV Tournament, which will be played at the SCAD Athletics Center, when they will play in the 5 p.m. semifinal match against an opponent to be determined.
Mary-Kate Sliter started the goal-scoring binge in the first half as she scored her second goal of the season at the 27:01 mark off an assist from
Jordan Luciano.
Amanda Barj and
Lauren Frederick added unassisted goals over the next 3:45 to give SCAD a 3-0 lead.
Nicola Daffey scored her seventh goal of 2007 at the 58:06 mark off a double assist from Sliter and
Kate Steinberger. The Bees got their final goal as Frederick knocked in her second of the match on a rebound after Thomas goalkeeper Amanda Graham, who had 14 saves, had deflected
Shelby Simon's original shot. Thomas scored its lone goal at the 88:43 mark off a direct kick from just outside the box by Sheila McLaughlin.
SCAD dominated the match as they registered a 31-7 advantage on shots, including a 19-5 margin on shots on goal.
